Since Bitcoin hit $20,000 in 2017, cryptocurrency entered the minds of the public as a get rich quick scheme or for others as an anonymous form of currency used for nefarious purposes. However, what is not usually discussed is the positive impact cryptocurrency can have (and has) on people all over the globe. As this industry matures, there are a number of projects globally solving real world problems from hyperinflation to underbanked populations sending money to digital payments at home. Come join this session to learn what cryptocurrency is, and the many uses of these currencies.

Omar Hamwi leads the Business Development and partnerships in the U.S. and Canada for Dash, the leading cryptocurrency for payments. At Dash, Omar creates and manages partnerships and projects focusing on innovative use cases where Dash can solve existing problems and inefficiencies in specific industries. For example, Omar recently project managed a large multi-faceted launch in Venezuela for a mobile phone company. As a key part of his role, Omar is focusing on supporting the mainstream integration of Cryptocurrency in the U.S. Cannabis industry. Prior to joining Dash, Omar began his career with the Global Bank Advisory Services and Credit Bureau Development team within IFC, the World Bank Group’s private sector arm. Omar then entered the private sector as a management consultant, consulting for a number of companies on Wallstreet and major television networks in New York City. Most recently, he led Global Business Development for a Dubai-based global Fintech company. Omar holds an MBA with a specialization in Decision Sciences from George Washington University and a BA in Economics from York University.
